Booster Club

The establishment of the Smoky Hill Baseball Program was driven by the purpose of extending financial aid to the baseball program. The club's main objective is to cultivate a robust and highly competitive baseball program all year round at Smoky Hill High School (Aurora, CO). Without the financial support from the Smoky Hill Baseball Program, maintaining the program's position as one of the leading programs in the state would be an immensely challenging task. Operating a top-notch program solely on the limited budget provided by the school district would be a colossal undertaking. One can easily observe the stark contrast in the quality of the playing fields when visiting other schools during the season.

The funds raised through various fundraisers are primarily allocated by the Smoky Hill Baseball Program for general maintenance and improvements of the field. However, over the past five years, the Smoky Hill Baseball Program has made significant investments in several crucial upgrades. These include the installation of security cameras, a clubhouse TV, a varsity scoreboard, the construction of a new concession stand, purchase of a mower, laser field leveling, and replacement of the infield playing surface dirt. Further enhancements encompass a new grass infield, painting of dugouts, and installation of foul poles. In addition to capital improvements, the club also organizes essential end-of-season ceremonies like Senior Day and the end-of-season banquet.

The primary sources of fundraising for the Smoky Hill Baseball Program are the Holiday Wreath Fundraiser and the Buffalo Team Blast. The Buffaloes Café also contributes additional income, amounting to approximately $1,000.00 per year, while fulfilling its primary purpose of providing food and beverages for players and fans.

The fall baseball and winter workout programs are not designed to generate profits for the Smoky Hill Baseball Program. These programs are priced to break even and cover all associated costs. However, the club estimates costs on the higher end to minimize the risk of financial loss. The costs for these programs include umpires, league fees, tournament fees, uniforms, field maintenance, coaching stipends, and travel expenses as required. Underestimating cost projections or not enforcing the payment policy would put the financial stability of the club in jeopardy.

The school district partially compensates the coaching staff, with up to four members receiving payment during the high school season; all other coaches volunteer their time. When funds are available, the club provides a small stipend to coaches for their time during the fall and winter workout seasons.

To alleviate costs, Smoky Hill players have various fundraising opportunities at their disposal. The most beneficial opportunity is selling Holiday Wreaths and participating in the Buffaloes Team Blast. Players can also earn credit towards summer fees by selling ads in our annual media program, business card ads, and by registering new loyalty card community rewards members through King Soopers. More detailed information about fundraising can be found in the Smoky Hill Baseball Program section of the website and by using the fundraising tab.

The Smoky Hill Baseball Program firmly believes that financial difficulties should not hinder anyone from playing baseball. Therefore, the club offers several options to accommodate families facing financial hardships. These options include making monthly payments towards fees. If this is still insufficient to cover baseball expenses, the club occasionally provides financial hardship scholarships. To explore these options or to request a financial hardship application, please reach out to Coach Askew or a program member.

The Smoky Hill Baseball Program is a 501(c) (3) organization. In spring 2019, the club obtained tax-exempt status under section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code, with the name Smoky Hill Baseball Program. The club is recognized as a public charity by the Internal Revenue Service. Contributions made to the club are tax deductible under section 170 of the Code. The club is also eligible to receive tax-deductible bequests, devises, transfers, or gifts. While the majority of our financial earnings currently come from fundraisers, our hope for the future is to secure sponsors and donors to support major improvements, such as bleachers and indoor facilities. If you or someone you know is interested in sponsoring our program, please contact any program member.

If you are interested in volunteering to help, there are numerous opportunities available. During the spring and summer seasons, volunteers are always needed to work at the Buffaloes Café. Additionally, the club often relies on the assistance of dedicated parents to lend a hand during these seasons. We also have several events and committees that require strong leadership and support. If you are unsure about where you can contribute, please feel free to call us at (720) 277-9778 or email BoosterClub@SmokyHillBaseball.com..
